It is the second largest monkey in America, its name is due to the thick fur that covers its body and its bulging stomach. Lives in primary rainforests and floodplains. It feeds on leaves, fruits and insects and is an important seed disperser. Threatened by illegal trafficking of their young that are sold as pets and the destruction of their natural habitat. In Colombia it is distributed in the Colombian Amazon and the south of the Orinoquia; between the Colombian Andes to the west, the Negro River to the east and between the Uva River, affluent of the Guaviare River, to the north and the Amazon to the south. In Putumayo, you can see this monkey that lives mainly in humid primary forests.
